Farmscape for July 4, 2014

A summer day camp hosted by the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre will offer school children the chance to learn about the production of the food they eat.
The Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre will host a new hands-on summer day camp from July 21 to 25 to teach elementary school children about the production of food.
Guy Robbins, the centre's visitor services coordinator, says the camp provides a great opportunity to learn about our food supply.

We're targeting kids between the ages of seven to 13 and we're looking to give them a fun experience where they can learn a bit about agriculture and produce and then cook that produce and on the last day, the Friday, they'll produce a pizza in our pizza oven out of all the produce that they've been preparing and cooking and then they'll have a nice pizza.
It's a fun way of introducing them to different ingredients and different cooking things they can do and into how agriculture produces the food that they eat.
In the last few years there's been a lot of controversy about food, how it's produced, so we like to talk to schools and youth because if you can give them a good healthy start and a good attitude to the food, give them good advice and that'll stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives and then they'll have the information they need to look for good quality food.
There's a lot of great food produced in Manitoba right on their doorstop and if they know about what they look for then they can go and have plenty of great food.

The registration deadline for the summer day camp is tomorrow.
